Posted on 17/06/2024

Additional spending is due to be submitted to parliament for approval in June, including co-financing.

The German Ministry of Defense has requested an additional 3.8 billion euros from its government to provide assistance to Ukraine this fiscal year. This was reported by the German newspaper Bild on Saturday, May 18, citing its own sources.

Journalists point out that of the available 7.1 billion euros, which the German government allocated for military support to Ukraine this year, almost everything has been distributed, only 300 million euros remained for the purchase of new weapons or ammunition.

At the same time, according to the Ministry of Defense of Germany, Ukraine needs urgent military assistance for effective defense against Russian invaders.

On May 15, the head of the German Ministry of Defense Boris Pistorius met with Chancellor Olaf Scholz, on May 16 – with the Minister of Finance Christian Lindner. The request for allocation of additional funds must be submitted to the parliament for approval in June.

The Ministry of Finance of Germany, as the newspaper emphasizes, supports and is not against the allocation of additional money for Ukraine.

In addition, Bild’s sources reported that the Ministry of Defense has set aside a record 15 billion euros for aid to Ukraine by 2025.
